Buying Bedroom Furniture for Girls

Buying bedroom furniture for children can be particularly difficult, and more so when the child in question is a girl!

Girls tend to be more demanding in their requirements and a theme is specially important. Obviously, whatever theme your child wants will inevitably be driven by her age. Make sure that if she is at one of those transition ages, that the theme is likely to withstand the change. For example, if she is currently nine, then the theme will be substantially different to that which is chosen at 12 or thirteen and this may therefore influence the price you want to pay for a girls bedroom furniture.

Choosing the bed is probably the easy part but don’t miss the important other items such as a dresser and even the indispensable mirror, preferably full length. The dresser must provide plenty of storage space for essential items such as make-up and rings and its best to get one that is topped by a mirror to allow easy application of the make-up. Some models now also come with a purpose made storage area for items such as hair driers and curling/straightening tongs. These can get very hot so such storage areas will prevent the item being placed onto the work surface leading to damage or even a fire.

Another important point to consider when planning the placement of a girl’s bedroom furniture is the sitting of the dresser. Natural light is always the preference, so if you can position close to a windows then this is better than in a dark corner. Again, modern models can come equipped with a light and this is effective in a smaller room in any event since the natural light may not be particularly good and application of make-up needs to be accurate and clean to save many hours primping!

The quality of the furniture is also important. Ladies like to have friends to stay over and therefore any furniture may have to take the weight of several people despite being designed for only one. It makes sense, therefore, to buy the best quality you can afford and avoid furniture which is simply nailed together. This method of fixing is particularly poor and modern teenagers will reduce it to smithereens within weeks. Screws are preferable as a method of fixing and an even better method is the use of dovetailed joints. These can be even stronger than the solid wood from which they are made and virtually indestructible, even by teenagers.

Consider also the amount of wardrobe space for clothes and shoes. Most ladies reach an age where clothes become a real focal point in their life and their collection develops at an exponential rate. Wardrobes are important items and its best to choose one that has plenty of storage space for shoes. Again, the number of pairs of shoes that ladies need to own can be alarming, particularly to fathers and its very easy to underestimate the storage required. A reasonably priced solution is to buy a number of clear plastic boxes in which to store each pair. These will protect the shoes from being damaged and also do not need to be opened to see what is inside. This makes finding that perfect pair much easier.
