How to Find Buried Treasure Maps
You can find the treasure maps in shipwreck chests and underwater ruins chests. They appear as a small icon of yellowish paper.
Using a Buried Minecraft Treasure Map
Equip the buried treasure map in your hot bar and then select it. The map will appear in your hands. Note that the map will be smaller if you’re equipped with an off-hand item, such as a shield.
Simply follow the map until you arrive at the spot indicated by the red X. Your current position is where you see a white mark on the map. You’ll appear as a dot on the edge of the map if you are not in the viewable area of the map. In this case, start traveling in the direction opposite to the location of the dot until you appear “on the map.” For example, head Northwest if you appear in the bottom (southeast) corner of the map.
Digging for Treasure
Once you arrive at the designated spot, you’ll need to start digging. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact location on the map, so dig in a wide area.
The Buried treasure location consists of a single chest. It is usually buried by material such as sand or gravel. You might discover that the chest is buried by something more durable, such as a stone block, sandstone block, or even coal ore and diorite.
You will usually need to dig down to a depth of several blocks before you uncover the chest.
Once you see the chest, right click on it to claim your treasure. Buried treasure chests will usually have five different items in them from the following list:
