You can earn Experience Points (XP) in Minecraft in a number of ways. Some are pretty easy, others are difficult, and still others are very efficient but require a lot of preparation.

One of the easiest ways to get XP in the early stages of the game is by mining coal. You can harvest coal ore with any pick axe, and whenever you mine it, you’ll get coal along with up to 2 XP.

The trick to making this worthwhile is mining coal in the right place. Most of the time, you’ll find coal underground, mixed in with stone. Although it is plentiful, searching randomly for it underground takes a lot of time.

If you want to find a lot of coal quickly, head for a nearby mountain biome. These areas have a lot of stone, and often feature plateaus that are easy to navigate. You’ll find a lot of coal ore out in the open, making it very easy to locate and mine.

Run around and harvest coal for a while in the early part of the game, and you’ll be leveled up in no time at all. Plus, you’ll have a lot of coal in your pocket!
